Happy Sixth Birthday

Update April 2021
I began blogging on WordPress on St George’s Day April 2015 but continued my old blog to try an ensure my followers moved with me.

My main WordPress blog is coming up on its 6th birthday this month and so far has received 8,564,236 hits which equates to 3,024,358 visitors.

This blog currently gets around 2,750 visitors a day (around 6,500 views a day) but believe me it has taken a lot of work (obsession) to get to this point!

March 2021 stats edited

Pandemic
Like many of you the pandemic totally changed my life; my focus has shifted from the mix of freelance chef work and writing to okay, what do I do now? I have in the last couple of years been teaching part-time and was enjoying that, but in the midst of a pandemic I couldn’t even do that. So like many others I learnt new skills, which is easier than sitting at home staring at my walls.

Zoom
So first of all, I learnt how to use Zoom and I guess because I’ve had technology in my life a long time I got good enough with it to go on and teach it. So then I had to figure out how I could use Zoom to give cookery lessons, and after listening to other chefs teachers experiences I decided I would try filming my recipes which I would then use as a teaching aid in my zoom classroom.

The Journey
Making cooking videos is something I had thought about a lot over the years, but either a busy work as a chef or lack of a camera man had just kept this to a pipe dream. Filming, lighting, sound and editing was a whole new skill set but thankfully I have a wonderful patient wife who was up for the sharing this challenge and I just couldn’t have done it without her.

YouTube
As some of you know I do now have a YouTube channel with 7 videos on it so far. We have in fact produced about 24 cooking videos but at the moment most of them are being used in my cookery lessons. Creating, practicing and filming is a labour of love and is also time consuming, but I’m still very committed to producing more recipes for my blog.

Social Media
My next recipe is taking shape and will be published before the end of April but in the meantime I would like to ask any of my readers if you are on social media (facebook, Instagram, twitter, Tumblr, VK or others) to lets support each other. Anyone who follows me I will follow in return and like your posts etc as often as I see them. I have linked my accounts to the buttons below, so if you click each one it will take you there so you can follow. Please let me know you are following me so I can do the same for you.

Your Pandemic stories
I would love to hear your own pandemic challenges or new skillsets you have achieved.

Best Wishes
Kevin

It is always good to hear from you. Your kind words are spoken with passion just like the words on your own blog.

And I love the message you have on the top of your blog and I wanted to share it and encourage my readers to go take a look for themselves……”Life is simply better, more beautiful, when you dedicate yourself to what you like to do , and if you also manage to touch a person’s soul, you will be blessed.”

    1. Hello Malcolm,

I always find reading your blog posts about First World War Ace Pilots fascinating, obviously you spend a considerable time researching before you publish your articles, no wonder you passed with distinction.

      1. Yes, NC is going to be completely open by May 15. We are now vaccinating young people, and we are looking forward to having friends over for meals! We managed to avoid Covid, even while cleaning out our house, putting it up for sale and moving. A minor miracle. Keep that good food coming!

    1. Thank you for your kind words of support. Like many bloggers it has become a balancing act of how much time do I spend producing a blog post and how much time I spend promoting the post on social media. This past year of lockdown also was the catalyst that got me into making videos which currently takes a lot of my time. On the plus side I get additional traffic from Youtube channel.

    1. Kally, there is never a bad time to hear from you, it is always a pleasure. Like many, blogging and sharing the blog via social media is a juggling act, you know the guy who is spinning lots of plates on tall bamboo canes. And late last year I decided to add YouTube…lol Hope you are doing well in 2021 as the pandemic slowly recedes.

  3. Congratulations Kevin! you have developed a huge following on WordPress and other scoial media. It’s great that you and your wife got to grips with Zoom and used it successfully for teaching and promotion. I’ve started teaching design lessons online but my main challenge for 2021 is to record some lessons for Skillshare.

    1. Thank you Charly, it is always good to hear from you. I think we can learn from each other…the world of blogging brings the world to us, to our front doors. I hope that gives us all, a better understanding of the world we live in.
