Yellow Split Pea Soup with Chicken and Ham

Yellow Split Pea Soupsmall

Wintertime is always a great time to make soup and this bowl of sunshine will definitely brighten your day. I originally posted this recipe back in 2016 on this blog but a few weeks ago I decided to recreate my recipe for my YouTube channel.  You can find the recipe here

Because of Brexit I am unable to use Vulcano Ham so I replaced it with Serrano, indeed any air dried ham will work well.  I did flirt with the notion of just adding the video to the original post but wondered whether readers would notice the update? I do hope a few of you will watch the video and share your thoughts please.

    1. Thanks GP, it is always good to hear from you.
I like to challenge myself once in a while to be creative. My wife says it is my inner “Remy” from Ratatouille that can picture ingredients and know what will work.

    1. Hi Dorothy,
I agree and love both green and yellow split peas make great soup that is so nutritious and tastes so wonderful. I think that split pea soup has been recently re-discovered particularly by people looking for gluten-free soup recipes that are hearty.

  1. Funny. You are the third person talking about split pea soup this week. I made a huge pot of it a few days ago.

I used many of your same ingredients except for the chicken fingers, saffron and i had green peas not yellow ones. I also used the ham bone from the ham i served on Thanksgiving. Plenty of chunks to make the soup hearty after i pureed the soup.

I shared with a friend and made her day.

    Love your videos Kevin.

    Happy Holidays.

    1. Thanks Teri and sorry for the late reply my schedule is rather busy but fun in December. Your soup sounds delicious. Traditionally in the UK we would make a green split pea soup with a ham bone and ham, it seems to be coming back into fashion. Did you know that the Dutch serve a green split soup that has chunks of smoked sausage in? By the way Washington state grows organic yellow split peas in the Palouse region.
Thanks for your kind words about my videos.

      Best Wishes
      Kevin 🙂
